PIERRE — A team of state and local economic developers are headed to Las Vegas next week to meet with executives and work to attract data centers, computer, and information technology companies to South Dakota.
The group, which consists of community representatives from Mitchell, Sioux Falls, Vermillion and Yankton, is attending the Association for Data Center Management Professionals (AFCOM) Data Center World Expo March 20-22.
“This is a great trade show for us,” said Governor’s Office of Economic Development Commissioner Pat Costello. “It is a smaller exposition in comparison to those that we attend in our other key industries, but its size allows us to connect with key players in the industry and really show them what South Dakota has to offer.”
South Dakota has been targeting companies in the Computer/IT industries for several years, and 2012 marks the third year of attending the Data Center World Expo.
“Data centers in particular are a great fit for South Dakota,” said Costello.
In addition to working with community economic developers, SDN Communications is attending the show with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED).
“The community/company/state approach works well for us for several reasons,” said Costello. “Not only do we get to work with our local partners and showcase the entire state, but we have a successful company on hand that can personally speak on the benefits of doing business in South Dakota.”
